Bio

She graduated in Biology at the University of Barcelona in 1984, followed by a master in Genetics in 1985. In 1992, she completed her PhD, which focused on the biodegradation of organic sulfur in coal.

Afterward, she undertook several postdoctoral research stays at the University of California, Los Angeles (USA), under the supervision of Dr. Robert P. Gunsalus. Her research there centered on the genetic regulation of various metabolic processes in E. coli. Additionally, she conducted studies on the microbiology of alcoholic and malolactic fermentation at the Faculty of Enology at the University Rovira i Virgili.

Currently, she is a Full professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, where her research focuses on the valorization of lignocellulosic biomass for the production of lactic acid, PHB (bioplastics) and energy through catalytic and biological processes, as well as the biodegradation of xenobiotic compounds.
